DHS Spring sports are starting soon! Reminder that an Athletic Clearance Card is needed in order to participate in conditioning and tryouts. Bring your completed sports physical packet to the DHS Athletic Office during school hours or on Tuesday, January 31 from 6-8pm in the North Gym lobby. If you played a Fall or Winter sport, a copy of the clearance card is needed for your spring sport also. Questions? Call DHS Athletics at 757-5400 x125.

It's not too late to join the 2017 Track and Field team.  If you are interested in joining, but you missed the informational meeting, there will be a makeup meeting in room L-25 during lunch on Wednesday, 2/1

ACADEMICS: Any student wishing to take AP Art Studio during 2017-18 must turn in a portfolio to any Art Teacher on Wednesday, February 18th.  Please check in A-1 for further information.

PSAT scores: Students can pick up their PSAT scores during lunch at the Career Center.

Are you looking for a quiet place to study? Need to use a computer?  If you answered yes to these questions, come to the Internet Afterhours program at DHS Library.  We are open every Monday through Thursday from 5:00-7:15 pm.  All DJUSD students and their families are welcome.

AP exams are available for purchase in the Webstore now!  $98 per test.  Online and in-person sales: now until 2/28 @ https://BlueDevilOnlineStore.myschoolcentral.com.  In-Person: DHS lunch time only at the Finance Office outside window.  If you are in need of financial assistance, please contact your counselor.

Are you a Latino student wanting to earn a college degree?  If so, you should attend the annual Steps to College Fair to learn about college opportunities and financial aid available to Latino students. The event will take place on Saturday, February 4 from 8:00 - 3:00 at the Consulate General of Mexico in Sacramento.  Come to the Career Center for more information.

Are you interested in biology?  If so, you may want to take the USABO Open Exam in February.  The USABO Open Exam is a 50-minute multiple-choice exam available to all high school students.  It focuses on animal and plant anatomy and physiology, cell biology. Genetics and evolution.  Students who qualify could represent the United States in international competition. OPPORTUNITIES/EVENTS/MISCELLANEOUS:  Congratulations to the following Davis Idol Finalists: Maddy Lemmo, Andrea Pincilotti, Shybria Roberts, Simone Gamble, Wesley Romer, Abhi Vemulapati, Jasmine Svoboda, Megan Abanat, Cinna Dale, Amy Fang and Lauren Duan. Come to Saturday's show to see them perform and find out who the two winners will be!

Blue Devil Pride Week (BDP) is coming up! This week full of school spirit kicks off this Friday, January 27th with BlueOut Spirit Day and the Women's Break the Record Night Basketball game vs. Elkgrove @ 6:00 pm.  The week continues into Saturday with boys' soccer vs. Jesuit @ Capital Christian.  Monday - Prep Day, wear your preppie clothes to the girls' basketball game vs. St. Francis, Tuesday - Jersey Day - Wrestling Match at 5:00 pm, Wednesday is Workout Wednesday and t-shirt wearing lunchtime activity, Thursday is BLACKOUT! Blackout women's soccer game @ 5:00 pm, Friday is WHITEOUT! Boys Break the Record Night Basketball game @ 7:00 pm, North Gym.  For your weather report, next week will be cloudy with a chance of Blue Devil Spirit!

JUNIORS:  The Rotary Club is sponsoring Camp Venture for juniors, an all-expense paid training and motivational summer camp for juniors interested in pursuing a career in business, particularly as entrepreneurs.  The camp will be held at CSU Maritime Academy in June.  The deadline to apply is February 17.  Come to the Career Center for an application.

JUNIORS:  Would you like to participate in Rotary Club's all-expense paid Camp Royal youth leadership camp this summer?  This leadership-training camp for juniors is filled with information, ideas and strategies that will help you become a more effective leader. The deadline to apply is February 17. The DHS PTA presents a Gap Year Fair Tuesday 2/28/17 for students to learn more about gap-year options. The fair will run from 6:00 to 8:30 p.m. at the Veterans Memorial Center, 203 E. 14th St., with speakers presenting in the theater from 6:00 to 6:45 p.m. and the fair is taking place in the multipurpose room from 6:45 to 8:30 p.m. The event is free but space is limited. It's College Tour time!  The City of Davis is offering its annual So-Cal Safari College Tour trip for high school students.  Colleges on the tour are UC Santa Cruz, Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, UC Santa Barbara, UCLA, and USC.  The trip will take place March 27-30.  Cost is $515, which includes transportation, college tours, breakfast, dinner and hotels.  Come to the Career Center for more information.

Applications are now available for the annual UC COSMOS four-week summer program for students in grades 8-12.  Students live on a UC campus, attend classes and labs and work with renowned researchers to explore STEM-related fields in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math. SENIORS:  This is the time of year to apply for financial aid to help you pay for college!  For consideration for federal and state financial aid, you must apply by March 2. Come to the Career Center for information about the financial aid process.

Juniors interested in learning what it's like to be an FBI agent can now apply for the FBI's spring 2017 Sacramento FBI Teen Academy on Friday, April 7 at the Sacramento FBI headquarters.  Students will participate in hands-on activities and hear presentations on terrorism, cyber, public corruption, polygraphs, SWAT, and the day-to-day operations of an FBI office.  Come to the Career Center for more information.

CLUBS:  Want to come volunteer hours and help your community?  Come to the Book Access Club in L-28 on Wednesday at lunchtime.

Ahn-yong-ha-sey-oh! In Korean, that means "hello!"  Do you want the opportunity to experience a life-altering cultural exchange trip to our sister city of Sangju, South Korea?  Then come check out Davis Cultural Exchange Club in P-14 on Tuesdays at lunch!

Like to write?  Want to talk to other people who like to write, discuss books and poetry as well as eat yummy food?   Come to the Creative Writing Club on Mondays during lunch in L-28.
