<P>Hoopa primary sends four races to general run-off <BR>By The Times-Standard
<P>Tuesday, May 10, 2005 -
<P>EUREKA -- Once again, Duane Sherman Sr. and Clifford Lyle <BR>Marshall will
be facing each other in an election to determine who <BR>will lead the Hoopa
Valley Tribe.
<P>From a field of three candidates for the tribal chairmanship, <BR>Marshall
and Sherman were the survivors. Marshall has 309 votes <BR>to Sherman's 267. The
third candidate -- A. Billy Colegrove -- <BR>received 168 votes.
<P>Sherman and Marshall, who have faced off before, will go <BR>head-to-head in
the June 21 general election.
<P>For the Agency District, Edward Guyer II with 205 votes and Byron <BR>Nelson
Jr. with 168 votes will vie for a seat on the tribal council in <BR>June.
Richard Marshall received 80 votes, Carol Ann <BR>McCullough-Cunha 139 votes and
Mary Jane Risling received 147.
<P>For the Bald Hills District, the run-off will be between LeRoy Jackson,
<BR>who received 339 votes, and Rob Roy Latham Jr. with 221 votes. Ben
<BR>Branham Jr. received 180 votes.
<P>In the Hostler/Matilton District, Wendy "Poppy" George took the prize
<BR>with 432 votes. There will be no run-off for this seat. Mikyowe <BR>Jackson
got 53 votes and Daniel Pratt Sr. got 247 votes.
<P>In the Soctish/Cheynone District, Margaret Mattz-Dickson got 322 <BR>votes
while Arnold Beeson came in with 165 votes. They will battle <BR>for the seat in
June. Ryan Jackson got 143 votes and Bonny <BR>Marshal-Roberts got 108 votes.
<P>According to a press release from the tribe, 751 votes were tallied <BR>from
the total of 1,315 who were eligible to cast ballots. The election <BR>took
place on April 26. <BR></P></FONT></DIV></BODY></HTML>
