Our mission is to restore and protect the uniquely diverse ecosystem and
promote the sustainable management of natural resources in the entire
Klamath River watershed. <br>
We believe this will be accomplished with actions and legislation that
integrate sound and proven techniques based on tribal knowledge, local
experience and the best of Western Science.<o:p></o:p></p>

<p class=MsoNormal><font size=3 face="Times New Roman"><span style='font-size:
12.0pt'>The 15,000 square mile Klamath River Watershed represents one of the
best chances in <st1:country-region w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">America</st1:place></st1:country-region>
for a very large restoration to demonstrate how sustainable land management can
work. The region is characterized by great geological and environmental
variability. <o:p></o:p></span></font></p>
<p><font size=3 face="Times New Roman"><span style='font-size:12.0pt'>Ancestral
land management knowledge and its practitioners are quite intact in this
region, despite the significant assaults on the local environment and
traditional cultures that have occurred over the last 150 years since the
arrival of European-Americans. Through the Klamath Restoration Council
and other forums, Tribal members are currently working with like-minded people
from many different groups in carrying out the restoration efforts needed to
return the region to its full human and ecological potential.<o:p></o:p></span></font></p>

<b><span style='font-weight:bold'>Restored Watershed Vision</span></b> <br>
A community wide visioning process is fundamental to restoration, and is <br>
being developed as part of our Economic Benefits Analysis for a Restored <br>
Klamath Watershed. As this process unfolds, we will know much more about <br>
restoration goals and purposes and aspirations for the Klamath Region. <br>
Until then, we can pursue goals that have been widely identified. We <br>
shall conduct open forums in every community in the region to collect <br>
impressions and hopes about the region. <o:p></o:p></span></font></p>
