Environmental Protection Agency has granted the Yurok Tribe and <st1:place
w:st="on"><st1:PlaceName w:st="on">Trinity</st1:PlaceName> <st1:PlaceType
w:st="on">County</st1:PlaceType></st1:place> $835,000 to protect and restore
the Trinity and lower Klamath rivers. <o:p></o:p></span></font></b></p>
<p><b><font size=3 face="Times New Roman"><span style='font-size:12.0pt;
font-weight:bold'>The grant is one of 12 in a $9 million package from the Targeted
Watersheds Grant Program. The program aims to get on-the-ground work done
following completed watershed assessments. <o:p></o:p></span></font></b></p>
<p><b><font size=3 face="Times New Roman"><span style='font-size:12.0pt;
font-weight:bold'>The money will be spent in part on Terwer Creek on the lower
Klamath. The Yurok Tribe will decommission 1.1 miles of road, rehabilitate 18
hillside areas, stabilize1,000 feet of stream bank and plant 800 trees. <o:p></o:p></span></font></b></p>
<p><b><font size=3 face="Times New Roman"><span style='font-size:12.0pt;
font-weight:bold'>Other money will go to <st1:PlaceName w:st="on">Trinity</st1:PlaceName>
<st1:PlaceType w:st="on">County</st1:PlaceType> for work on Indian Creek on the
<st1:place w:st="on">Trinity River</st1:place> to clear vegetation, remove
sediment, reshape the river channel and revegetate areas so more water can be
allowed to flow from Trinity Dam. <o:p></o:p></span></font></b></p>
<p><b><font size=3 face="Times New Roman"><span style='font-size:12.0pt;
font-weight:bold'>In <st1:PlaceName w:st="on">Hidden</st1:PlaceName> <st1:PlaceType
w:st="on">Valley</st1:PlaceType> on the South Fork <st1:place w:st="on">Trinity
River</st1:place>, the Trinity County Resource Conservation District will take
out 5 miles of roads and remove sediment. <o:p></o:p></span></font></b></p>

font-weight:bold'>The projects are part of ongoing partnerships including the
2000 plan to restore the <st1:place w:st="on">Trinity River</st1:place>.
