<p><b>Tom Stokely will speak on "Trinity County's Place in the Future of
California's Water Supply" at 6 p.m. Thursday, May 14, at the Weaverville
library conference room. The event is hosted by the Friends of the Library,
Trinity County Library and the Trinity County Resource Conservation District.
Refreshments will be provided. <o:p></o:p></b></p>
<p><b>Stokely was natural resources planner for Trinity County for 23 years and
is now serving on the board of directors of California Water Impact Network and
on the California Advisory Committee on Salmon and Steelhead Trout, which
advises the California Legislature's Joint Committee on Fisheries and Aquaculture.
<o:p></o:p></b></p>
<p><b>A significant amount of Trinity River water is exported to other parts of
California via the Central Valley Project to the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta,
from where it is pumped farther south for agriculture and urban populations. <o:p></o:p></b></p>
<p><b>The Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta system is on the verge of physical and
ecological collapse. Water pumped from it supplies more than 23 million
Californians in the southern part of the state. Pending and future legal
decisions and ballot measures may determine what happens to the Delta and how
Trinity County's water is used.</b> <br clear=left>
