McFee rolled several related New Yorker pieces together into his 1999
book by the same name (which I've been mis-citing for years as 'In
Contempt of Nature' - because that's really the book's spin/gist - must
reading for those of us presuming that we're restoring/managing nature
correctly.<br><br>
Oh, and the river - that's the old/original Mississippi River channel, if
memory serves (McFee's pt, exactly - why did the USCOE think such a
mighty river would be content anywhere but in its own bed ??) - is
pronounced just as it's spelled.<br><br>
