1. Meet bats and more at Explorit's Spring Festival

Meet live animals, sow seeds and embark on outdoor discoveries at the 
free "Spring Festival: A Celebration of the Natural World" on 
Saturday, April 23 from 1:00-4:30 p.m.  Enter the Bat Cave to meet 
live bats and learn about these mammals with the California Bat 
Conservancy.  Visit a variety of snakes and their relatives at the 
Reptile Petting Zoo.  Learn about owls and take a guided tour to the 
Burrowing Owl Preserve.  Dig in with the Yolo County Master Gardeners 
and plant a seed to take home.  These activities and more are 
sponsored by the Monsanto Fund.  Free admission is sponsored by First

2. Saturday programs in April

April 2 - Insects
Visit with some unique critters at "What's the Buzz?" presented by 
the UC Davis Entomology Club and the Bohart Museum.  Observe live 
insects and preserved specimens from all over California and the 
world.  Discover edible bugs!  Sponsored by Davis Waste Removal. 
Free with paid admission to the museum.  1:00 - 3:00 p.m. at Explorit
April 9 - Seeds
Get ready for springtime by learning the science behind seeds and 
more at "Signs of Spring."  Dissect seeds, make seed mosaics and 
plant seeds in paper pots to take home.  Sponsored by Davis Waste 
Removal.  Free with paid admission to the museum.  1:00 - 4:00 p.m. 
at Explorit 
April 23 - Festival
Bats, plants, seeds, owls, insects, snakes and more!  It's a full 
afternoon of discovery at the "Spring Festival: A Celebration of the 
Natural World." (See item #1 above for more details.)  FREE.  1:00 - 
4:00 p.m. at Explorit
April 30 - The Human Body
Give your brain something to chew on as members of the UC Davis 
Neurobiology, Physiology & Behavior Club lead visitors through a 
series of activities relating to hearing, balance, vision and 
digestion.  The program, "Insides Out!" is sponsored by Davis Waste 
Removal.  Free with paid admission to the museum.  1:00 - 3:00 p.m. 
at Explorit
April 30 - Astronomy
Learn about constellations and how to identify them with help from 
members of the Astronomy Club.  Why are some constellations only 
visible in winter?  What are some of the legends associated with 
various constellations?  Indoor presentation followed by outdoor 
viewing (weather permitting).  Free.  7:30 p.m. at Explorit


3. Registration for Summer Classes

Registration is now underway for Explorit's Summer Science Classes. 
The deadline to enter your child's registration form in for the 
random drawing is 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 12.  Classes offered 
this summer include "Science on the Edge," "When the Sun Goes Down," 
and "Great Inventors."  Pick up a copy of the Summer Class schedule

Explorit is looking for volunteers to serve as teaching assistants 
for the Summer Classes.  Make a difference and have fun learning with 
kids!  Teens going into eighth grade and all ages on up are asked to 
volunteer for a minimum of two weeks, mornings or afternoons.  Stop 
by Explorit to pick up a volunteer application or fill one out on

4. Lecture at the Library: Mountain Lions in CA

Two worlds collide in California: One is made up of approximately 4 
to 6 thousand mountain lions and the other consists of 35 million 
people. Walter Boyce of UC Davis will try to answer the question "Can 
People and Mountain Lions Co-exist in California?"  Discover there 
are no simple answers as you explore the biology and behavior of 
mountain lions (Puma concolor), particularly as they relate to people 
and the increased urbanization of lion habitat.  Tuesday, April 19 at 
7:30 p.m. at the Davis Branch Library, 315 E. 14th Street.  Sponsored
