Caltrans Cancels Weekend Work on the Tower Bridge

Inclement Weather is in the Forecast

SACRAMENTO - Rain and gusty winds forecast for this weekend are prompting the cancellation of the scheduled work and closure of the Tower Bridge on Sunday, January 6. No new date has been set for work to remove and replace worn bridge bearings. The contractor planned to use a helicopter to remove the sheave assemblies to accomplish the work. However, adverse weather would have made it hazardous to carry out the operation.

The detours impacting the 40, 42 A/B and 240 for the Tower Bridge closure on Sunday, January 6th, 2019 from 8 am to 4 pm have been canceled.

The following previously closed stops will remain open:


West Sacramento

  *   Tower Bridge Gateway and Raley Field (EB & WB)

Downtown Sacramento

  *   Capitol Mall at Front (EB & WB)
