YCTD awarded $1.2 million in US Department of Transportation (DOT) RAISE grant funds for intercity trails in Yolo County

(Woodland, CA) - The Yolo County Transportation District (YCTD) has been awarded $1.2 million in US Department of Transportation (DOT) RAISE planning grant funds to develop and implement a plan for a network of intercity bicycle and pedestrian trails in Yolo County, California.
With the US DOT RAISE grant funds, YCTD will conduct community outreach, map areas of persistent poverty in the county, prioritize disadvantaged areas for access to the bike/pedestrian trail network, provide conceptual design plans and cost estimates to build out the trail network, and develop design, engineering, and construction documents for top priority trail segments. This planning project will build upon YCTD's recent efforts to explore how design of transportation services can be used to address the needs of the County's rural and disadvantaged areas, where the impacts of systemic racism and disproportionately high environmental burdens generate disparities in socioeconomic outcomes.
"This grant positions us to build out a bike and pedestrian trail network that will help address longstanding barriers to mobility in Yolo County while serving as a centerpiece for YCTD as it moves into the future," said Don Saylor, Yolo County Supervisor and Chair of Yolo County Transportation District.
The population of Yolo County is primarily concentrated in smaller cities surrounded by working lands. While all the jurisdictions in Yolo County have their own bicycle and pedestrian plans, there is a lack of safe, accessible paths connecting the cities to one another. Historically, YCTD has primarily served as a transit operator. However, YCTD is expanding its scope to better meet the mobility needs of its geographically, racially, ethnically, and economically diverse service area.
