ON THIS DAY IN HISTORY:  On this day in 1847, the first rescuers reach
surviving members of the Donner Party, a group of California-bound emigrants
stranded by snow in the Sierra Nevada Mountains.

REMINDER

       *       Attention Senior Families:  Now is the time to buy your
Graduate's reservation for Grad Night 2010 on June 11.  Go to
www.davisgradnight.org <http://www.davisgradnight.org
> to make your reservations.  Advance sale only $90 or $110 at the door.

       *       Attention all 9th grade musicians:  Davis High School
Orchestra Program will conduct two auditions for 2010-2011. The first
audition group is "DHS Symphony Orchestra", which is an advanced level full
symphony orchestra open to string, woodwind, brass, and percussion players.
The second audition orchestra is the "DHS Baroque Ensemble" open to violin,
viola, cello, bass and keyboard players who are interested in learning to
play the Harpsichord. Auditions will be held in the IPAB, Room PA-3 starting
March 18-26.  Sign up by March 5 in your school music room or contact Mr.
Moreno at amoreno at djusd.k12.ca.us <mailto:amoreno at djusd.k12.ca.us> for more
information.

       *       If you received notification that you were selected as a
National Merit Finalist, come to the Scholarship and Financial Aid Office to
pick up your certificate!

TODAY

       *       Would you like to experience what it feels like to be the
Mayor of Davis running a televised city council meeting?  How about the
Police Chief?  Superintendent of School?  The Fire Chief?  These and many
more once-in-a-lifetime experiences are all possible to participants in the
annual Youth in Government program.  Come to the information meeting TODAY
at noon in the Student Government room C-4.  Seniors and juniors are
welcome.  What would you do if you were in charge for a day?

       *       Are you interested in learning more about Army ROTC?  If so,
come to the large conference room in the admin building at lunch TODAY to
meet with an Army ROTC representative.

       *       Come see the second annual "Be So Unique" cultural talent
show put on by the DHS BSU.  The show will be TONIGHT at 7:00 p.m. in the
IPAB.  Bring a friend!

       *       SENIORS!  It's time to order diplomas.  Make sure you come
into the front office TODAY to verify your legal name.  Any re-prints of a
diploma will be at your cost of $10.

       *       Registration for the California Scholarship Federation, CSF,
will be at lunch TODAY and during lunch next week.  Bring your report card,
the application, and $5.  Applications are available in the front office,
the library, P13 and P20.

       *       Remember to register for National Honor Society for spring
semester TODAY at lunch in Ms. Neagly's room in L-21.  Our next meeting will
be on Monday, March 1.

       *       Cafeteria-Special of the Day - Chili Cheese over Potato
Wedges (cheese sauce with or without Jalapenos).

NEW

       *       Attention Key Clubbers - don't forget we have elections on
Wednesday, February 24 at lunch!  We'll also be discussing district
convention on Friday the 26th in S-12 after school.  So if you're
interested, please come!

CONTINUED

       *       SENIORS:  If you're planning to attend UCD, have a minimum
GPA of 3.5, and you worked during high school, you may qualify for the
$11,400 Beeghly-Merritt Scholarship!  Applications are now available in the
Scholarship and Financial Aid Office.  The deadline to apply is March 26, so
come to the Scholarship and Financial Aid Office next to counseling to pick
up an application!

       *       SENIORS:  This is the time of year to apply for financial
aid!  To apply for federal and state financial aid, you need to complete the
FAFSA.  You can complete the FAFSA online at www.fafsa.ed.gov.  The FAFSA
deadline is March 2.  Come to the Scholarship and Financial Aid Office for
more information.
