ATHLETICS
DHS Winter Athletes:  SAVE THESE DATES! (Boys Basketball, Girls Basketball, Wrestling, Ski Team, Snowboard Team)
CONCUSSION BASELINE TESTING:  October 15--5:30, 6:30, 7:30 and October 16--4:00, 5:00, 6:00. (Winter athletes only at these times) Sign up link and permission form available on:  www.davisseniorhigh.net<http://www.davisseniorhigh.net>

SPORTS PHYSICAL PAPERWORK NIGHTS:  October 23 & 24: 6-8pm in the North Gym lobby. Turn in your completed paperwork and receive your athletic clearance card to present to your Winter coach on the first day of tryouts.

**If your student participated in a Fall sport, their concussion testing and paperwork clears them for the whole school year. If they choose to participate in a Winter sport, they need to come by the DHS Athletics Office or come to the paperwork night to pick up a copy of their clearance and emergency cards to give to the Winter coach.

TODAY

-For Lunch today we have Pizza or Pasta Day!  Pizza choice of Hawaiian, pepperoni with olives, Chicken Ranch, Chicken BBQ or Beef Topping or Whole Wheat Pasta with garlic and walnut pesto sauce, marinara sauce or Pasta with vegetables and beans.


-Davis High School is holding its second annual Mini College Fair!  Colleges from across the country will be ON THE QUAD AT LUNCH ON MONDAY, OCTOBER 1 to provide information and answer questions about their college.  Colleges that will be represented at the fair include University of Arizona, University of Reno, Colorado Mesa, Johnson & Wales, Loyola University Chicago and more! Come to the quad at lunch on Monday October 1 to take advantage of this great opportunity to get information about colleges you're interested in!



-College Visits Today in the Career Center :  Carroll College @ 9:00 am                   University of Oregon @ 10:00



-Atención Amigos!  Latinos Unidos general meeting every Monday in Room O-5 during lunch!  Hope to see you there!



-Are you interested in diplomacy, international relations and the United Nations agenda?  Join the Model United Nations Club for the third official meeting!  There will be a meeting at lunch in P-25 today, Monday!  Members may attend conferences throughout the school year, investigate international issues and take on roles as diplomats for debate and deliberation.  See you on Monday in P-25!





NEW
-The National Honor Society is still accepting applications and will hold the first meeting on Monday, October 1 at lunchtime in S-12.   Come and register!  Bring $5, your official transcript for the second semester last year with a GPA of 3.4 or higher and your enthusiasm!  See you soon!

-Tickets are now on sale for DHS Jazz Choir event, "Everybody Dance Now!"   The event will be held on Saturday, October 13 at 7:00 pm at the Richard Brunelle Theatre.  Tickets are $5 for students and $8 general and are available from Jazz Choir members or at Watermelon Music and during  lunch in the Quad the week of October 8th.  Tickets will be $10 at the door.  Hope to see you there!


-Seniors!  Graduation cap/gown/tassel, graduation announcements Thursday and Friday, October 4th and 5th during lunch and after school in the quad.  Extra ordering packets are available in the office.



-Class Rings:  Order your DHS Class Ring on Thursday and Friday, October 4th and 5th during lunch and after school in the quad.  Deposit of $50. is required.   Extra order packets are in the office.


-Picture Retake:  Picture retake will be on Tuesday, October 2, 2012 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in the Library West Conference Room.  You must bring your unwanted picture packet that you received in order to take your new pictures.   All new students that took pictures in the Library, please come and take your picture on October 2 so that you will be in the Yearbook.



-Join us for the first meeting of the Teen Health Awareness Club on Tuesday, October 2nd at lunch in Ms. Moriarty's room, S-5.  We will be discussing health care issues important to us all and organizing programs to benefit the school  community.  We hope to see you there!



-Fellow Gryffindors!  Please come to our second Gryffindor Float Building meeting Tuesday, October 2 at lunch in L-23 as we continue to plan out our Senior Float to vanquish Ravenclaw and Slytherin to win the House!



-Do you want to learn new moves and show off your own?  Do you want to be part of the freestyle performances in the quad?  Come to Freestyle Club in the Dance Room on Thursdays at lunch to express yourself through dance, beatbox and more!

-Lecture Series:  Interested in the field of Biomedical and Biomechanical Engineering?  You are invited to join the Healthcare Careers Club on Tuesday, October 2 at lunch in the Career Center to hear Dr. Kyriacos Athanasiou discuss helping joint cartilage repair itself using tissue engineering approaches.  Stem cell sources will be discussed showing that cartilage regeneration is becoming a controllable problem.  D. Athanasiou, father of two DHS seniors, is a Distinguished Professor of Biomedical Engineering and Orthopaedic Surgery, the Child Family Professor of Engineering and the Biomedical Engineering at the University of California Davis.



-If you are a club, sports team or group on campus and are interested in participating in the homecoming day parade, come to C-4 and pick up both an application for participation and permission slips for all those wishing to take part in the parade.  All applications must be turned must be turned into C-4 by October 5th.

-The DHS Band Boosters and volunteers from the DHS Band students are selling tickets for a raffle.  The Grand prize is the very popular Google Nexus Computer Tablet.  Other cool prizes being raffled are tickets to the Mondavi and gift certificates from Best Buy and Yolo Berry.  The drawing will be held during the Davis High School Jazz Band Performance at the Jazz and Beat Festival on 10/20/12.  Ticket holders do not have to be present to win and tickets are $5 each or $20 for 5 tickets.  There are $10 gift certificates for Lamppost Pizza on each raffle ticket as well!  Come and hear the DHS Jazz Band on 10/20/12 at University Commons Plaza at 5:00 pm and maybe win a great prize!

-Seniors! You must take an official Senior Portrait in order to be featured in the yearbook! You do not have to buy a package, but you must take a photo. -Davis Senior High School is seeking a parent to serve on the School Site Council for the 2012-2013 school  year.  The School Site Council discusses ways to improve student achievement and meets at Davis Senior High School on the third Thursday of each month at 3:00.
