THIS DAY IN HISTORY
-1967:  In Washington, D.C. nearly 100,000 people gathered to protest the American war effort in Vietnam. More than 50,000 of the protesters marched to the Pentagon to ask for an end to the conflict.

COLLEGE VISITS  - Prior to attending the college visit, students must go to their class and check in with their teachers. Only students who have pre-registered in Naviance will be able to attend the college visit. Only 11th/12th graders may attend a college visit.

 DSHS is a closed campus except for lunchtime. Therefore students MUST check out before leaving campus and MUST check back in upon returning to ensure the student is not marked "Left Without Permission" which is counted as an unexcused absence.  You need to have a "green pass" from the Attendance office before leaving campus.

-The DHS Dance Team is holding auditions for the winter season.  Tryouts are November 7th - 10th. There is a mandatory informational meeting today at lunch in the Dance Room for anyone interested in auditioning. For more information check Facebook or ask any of the current Dance Team members. We hope to see you at tryouts!

-Have you ever wanted to learn how to fly or pursue a career in aviation?  If so, you should attend University Airport's Open House tomorrow, Saturday, October 22 from noon until 4:00 p.m.  Vintage and contemporary aircraft, cars and motorcycles will be on display.  The event is free and open to the public.  Come to the Career Center for more info.

-Friendship Day! Hey Kangaroos and Baby Koalas! If you would like to go to the next Friendship Day, come to the quad during lunch today to sign up!

-CSF has a general meeting today at lunch in P-13.

Blue Devils Club meets today at lunch in N-10. See you there!

-Dust off that old band instrument and "join the band" tonight at the football game. All students and staff who play an instrument are encouraged to attend and play in the stands for the first half of the game. School Board members and other community members will be there too. Meet at the band room (PA-3) at 5:30 pm to get music and rehearse a little before the game. For questions, talk to Jenny Horn or Concert Band director Clyde Quick. Join the band!

-The DHS Jazz Band will perform at the 5th Annual Davis Jazz Festival on Saturday, October 22, from 4:15 - 5:00 pm at the Main Stage, Davis Commons. The Jazz Festival runs all afternoon and is FREE! Enter a Band Boosters drawing to win a Visio tablet computer or a weekend getaway at a Tahoe cabin.

Remember to get up early on Sunday to celebrate Mole Day, all you chemistry enthusiasts.  Meet at the Holmes Jr. High Mole-tipurpose room at 6:02 AM.  Here is today's Elementary Question (the answer is a chemical element):    Q.  When Paris, Prince of Troy heads off to bed after an evening with one of his buddies, what does he say?   A.  nitrogen!

-Hey Blue Devils and Ghouls, Halloween is coming up fast! You can order your Halloween grams for $2 each, on Monday, October 24, Tuesday, and Wednesday, in the quad at lunch. Halloween grams consist of a sweet treat and a spooky message.  All Grams will be delivered 3rd period Halloween day. Please know the name, spelling and 3rd period Room Number of the person you are sending your gram to, at the time of purchase. Proceeds will go to support the DHS Orchestra program. Be sure to get one for all your friends and Halloween Sweethearts!

-Come to Davis UNICEF Club on Monday, October 24 in L-23. We will discuss our Halloween party and trick-or-treat campaign. Together we can change the world!!!

Davis High's Speech & Debate team will host a fundraiser Monday, October 24 from 5 - 9 pm at the North Davis Dos coyotes. If you are interested in supporting your peers, please drop by P-23 to pick up a flyer. This flyer must be presented at the time of purchase.

-the DHS Snowboard Team sign-up meeting is Wednesday October 26 at 7:00 pm in the DHS Library. Auburn Ski Club coaching staff members and local DHS coaches will be there to answer questions and have parents sign forms for students interested in joining the team. All interested athletes need to attend with a parent or guardian to hear about team training and race events. If unable to attend, call Marcia Heller (753-8930).

Auditions to sing the National Anthem for basketball games will be held during lunch on October 28. Come sing!

-VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY:  All Things Right and Relevant is looking for volunteers to work in their East 8th Street store.  Volunteers are needed to help customers, work the cash register, tag items in the store, and assist with other activities as needed.  Come to the Career Center for more information and an application.

-Attention Juniors and Seniors: The CAHSEE test is coming in November. Notices have gone home to students who still require a passing score on either English Language or Math portions of the test. If you have received a notice and you have already passed one or both portions, please bring proof to the Testing Coordinator ASAP.

-PE make-ups have begun at the start of lunch.   Students must dress out immediately when lunch starts and meet on the track to run the mile.  If it is raining, students meet in the north gym.

¡Hola Amigos! The Latinos Unidos Club meetings are every Tuesday at lunch in Room A-5. We are having our club's Logo Design Contest. Art designs are due November 1.  Everyone is welcome to participate.

-The Language Tutors Club is still looking for tutors in Chinese, Japanese and German. Applications are still being accepted this week.

-Hey Blue Devils! We are looking for a new Diablo to mascot at our events! If you are interested, come to the informational meeting Wednesday, October 26 at lunch in Room C-4. Hope to see you there!
