DCN Board Notes, May 2005

Davis Community Network (DCN)
Meeting without a quorum - no business conducted.

A regular meeting of the Board of the Davis Community Network
was called for Tuesday, May 17, 2005
in the Davis City Hall Chambers meeting room
600 A Street.

Present: Rick Guidara, Anne Hance, John Jones, Steve McMahon,
Jan Meizel, Kimball Sargeant, and Exec. Dir. Richard Lowenberg.

Absent: Tony Bernhard, Tsui Chang, Jim Frame, Robert Nickerson,
Tom Stanionis, Richard Yamagata.

There was not a quorum in attendance for this meeting. No official
business was conducted.

1. Richard told us that the re-scheduled public hearing for the cable
franchise is now scheduled for June 1st at 6:30 PM

2. It was mentioned that the Friends of the Davis Library have
commissioned a poll to learn the opinions of local voters about the
aspects of the proposed Library expansion and possible community
media (learning) center they might support.

3. Richard talked about his recent meetings with Kari Peterson,
Director of DCTV, and separately, with Mary Stevens of the Yolo
County Library system. He plans a further meeting with Kari to
discuss ways in which DCN and DCTV might merge some common
operating functions that DCTV as the larger, organization can
accomplish more economically and efficiently than DCN.

4. For Celebrate Davis, next Thursday. May 26, Richard is doing
cost comparisons before purchasing a shade canopy. We have some
DCN yellow t-shirts left from last year. Board members helping at
Celebrate Davis are encouraged to wear their DCN shirts. Rick
Guidara will bring a couple of folding chairs. Steve will be able to
help set up and staff the booth much of the time, Jan and John will
help too. Richard Lowenberg will not be able to be there all the time.
Tsui has the flags from last year but was not present to explain how
she might participate this year.

More help is probably needed so people should let Richard know
what they can do. Apparently KDRT will not be broadcasting.

5. Steve mentioned the next Simple Site class on June 2nd. he hopes
the new server OS installation will be finished next week so that he
can start installing the apps.

6. Anne mentioned that the RAC has received another project
application from a DHS student who would like a Simple Site for a
school choir class. The student has found a sponsor - a classmate's
parent - but, as Jan confirmed, the questions remains about the
involvement of the class teacher. Anne will communicate to the
student applicant the need to involve the teacher and to be sure to
comply with all school policies concerning privacy and the various
requirements for obtaining parental permissions for the use of names
and photos.

7. Richard mentioned that he was to be presented with the COOP
Foundation's $200 grant at a meeting later this evening.

We all went home at about 6:25 PM

Anne Hance, Secretary
