DCN Minutes October 18, 2005

The meeting was called to order at 5:21.

Members present: Tsui Chang, Jim Frame, John Jones, Steve
McMahon, Robert Nickerson, Kimball Sargeant and Jan Meizel

The agenda was approved by consensus, as were the minutes of
September 20th.
There was no public comment.

Richard Lowenberg updated the Board on the financial status.
-The County Elections Board has stated their intent to renew the
MOU
-He is working with Rob Nickerson of Omsoft to adjust charges
and the relationship between the two entities.
- Richard is communicating with the City of Davis re: the MOU
for the coming year

The Board approved the annual report. It was approved by
consensus.
- It will be posted on DCN's site

Strategic Planning-
- Richard and Robert have discussed the cost of
bandwidth and whether DCN could obtain bandwidth at lower
cost
- Omsoft is having discussions with SBC
-Rob suggested that DCN might follow Mendocino's
approach by supporting Omsoft with its sponsored groups.
- The Board discussed possible approaches to strategic
planning
Steve suggested we begin with a discussion of the Vision
for community in the future as we consider transitions
Richard suggested a meeting of the two Boards of DCN
and DCTV. He will pursue this with DCTV and suggest a
discussion of the convergence of digital media.
The Board will also look at DCN's mission, goals and
objectives as part of its strategic planning.

Board member Recruitment
The Board will need to form Board Member and Officer
Committees in December

Committee Reports
-RAC- met at the beginning of the month and allotted resources
for two applicants
-Web Team- started two PLONE projects with KDRT and the
Davis High School PTA
-Richard has spoken with the gentleman who is organizing the
network at DQU and will ascertain whether DCN can assist them
as they rebuild
He has also spoken to Woodland to see if DCN can
assist them with the IT plan they are designing.
