Approved November 18, 2008
Davis Community Network
October 21, 2008
5:30 - 6:12 p.m.
1210 Hemlock Lane, Davis
This meeting, called as a regular monthly board meeting, did not gather
a quorum of members so these are unofficial notes, based on the agenda,
of the conversations between those gathered.
Members present (7): Tsui Chang, Jim Frame, Anne Hance, Jan Meizel,
Steve McMahon, Kimball Sargeant, Vicki Suter.
(14 active members; quorum = 8)
Members absent (7): Brian Gegan, Rick Guidara, Russ Hobby, Robert
Nickerson, Tom Stanionis, Bev Sykes, Richard Yamagata.
Visitor: Dave Zavatson
The September 16, 2008 minutes could not be approved due to the lack of
a quorum.
• Vicki Suter passed round a two-page handout. She
brought those in attendance up to speed on the Non-profit Internet
toolkit Pilot Project. Three of the six projects are progressing well;
one is stalled and one dropped out. The sixth project is DCN and we
have a bit of catching up to do in the use of apps like Google docs and
we have a lot of work to do on the Salesforce database. Vicki asked Jan
to be part of the DCN pilot team to work with her and the volunteer
(Alex) who is going to create the Salesforce database.
• Dave Zavatson, DCN/Omsoft's new Sys Admin, was
introduced and he talked a bit about his expertise and mentioned some
ways in which he thinks he'll be able to help DCN improve some of its
hardware, software, and operational strategies. Jim Frame is adapting
the contract that DCN had with Jack Crowell. Kimball will review
it.
• Steve reported about the Web Team that:
o Tsui has done a great job of a major restructuring
of DCN's Community Directory - bringing it into Plone.
o The Community Calendar is now very active
o The Elections Website is full of useful information
– DCN has thoroughly earned the income it gets from the Elections
Office.
• Jan reported about the RAC that:
o The last meeting was sparsely attended and a couple
of additional members would be an advantage. The "Stckphto" web site of
Davis images came up for re-authorization and once again the committee
had to consider the issue in light of the fact that the site is now
stagnant and this breaks one of the RAC policies.
