Davis Community Network Board of Directors Meeting
June 15, 2010 at 5:15 p.m.
City Computer Lab, A Street, Davis, CA
Members Present (6): Tsui Chang, Jim Frame, Brian Gegan, Teri Greenfield, Russ Hobby, Kimball Sargeant (Chair).
Members Absent (3): Anne Hance, Steve McMahon, Jan Meizel, Robert Nickerson, Richard Yamagata.
1. Call to Order 5:20 p.m. by President Kimball Sargeant
2. The agenda was approved by consensus
3. Public comment: None
4. The minutes of the 5/18/10 regular board meeting were approved by consensus
5. Notifications of Service Outage. The board considered a proposal to post notifications of DCN service outages on the DCN website (if unaffected by the outage) and Facebook. The initial notification would have to come from Omsoft staff via phone or text to a pool of volunteers (identified as Teri, Tsui, Russ and Jim) who would then post to the available sites. Jim will contact Rob to discuss the matter.
6. Website update. Tsui voiced the urgent need to move the DCN website to Plone 3 so that revisions can be more easily accomplished, noting that the current site makes it difficult to use valuable marketing tools. She identified the need to meet with Steve and Kari to restart this effort, which got derailed due to the many layers of communication involved.
7. City of Davis Media Grant. Discussed in executive session.
8. Board Recruitment. Kimball, Tsui and Jim reported on the meeting with Kim Wallace, principal of DSIS and King High. The meeting covered areas of mutual interest and identified some potential collaborative projects between the school district and DCN. Kim will consider formal involvement with DCN, but made no commitment in light of her busy schedule. Brian will follow up in a week. Brian also reported that he has not succeeded in contacting Gary Sandy or Mabel Salon to followup on the meeting with them. Russ reported that he will contact Dan Woo (not sure of spelling - ed.) about serving on the board.
9. July Board Meeting. Kimball noted that we may not be able to raise a quorum for the July meeting. Kimball polled those present as to their availability, and will contact the remaining members before deciding whether or not to schedule a meeting in July.
10. Committee Reports:
OPC: Tsui told the board that both Celebrate Davis and the DCN classes have been very successful. Tsui and Teri announced a new social media drop-in class to be scheduled for June 30 in honor of Social Media Day. The class will be promoted via the newsletter, the DCN Facebook page, and the Davis Enterprise.
RAC: Kimball noted that the Civic Center Park Neighborhood Association has been granted a Mailman list for member communication.
11. Announcements: none.
12. Adjourned at 6:05 p.m.
Humbly submitted,
Jim Frame
