MOU negotiations with city, Rob or Steve
Rob and Steve met with COD IS director Jason Best and city staff.
Steve and Rob reported. COD will be splitting network services into a separate agreement. COD appreciates DCN’s activities and wants them separated. Elements of that would be what we’re doing now, plus support for senior center “Connections” cybercafe classes/training. Steve will work with Samantha Wallace at the COD on new language about the classes. COD also will work with us to get a training facility that works well for more formal classes.
Connections possibilities: iPad/iPhone/Droid, using city sites, watching city meetings, Skype/Google+. These can be 15 minute talks plus interactive help.
Jan and Anne talked about the importance of handouts for some audiences.
Suggested we do our current value just for continuing services: simplesites, lists, calendar. Additional for coordination, preparation of classes. 15-24 a year? $1,000 additional per month for our coordination plus increases in costs for other activities? Stress that this is coordination of volunteers, some DCN, some others.
Approaching city on value of municipal fiber
Discussion of a possible DCN role in advocating for a municipally owned or at least openly managed fiber-to-the-home network.
Rob is working on some draft materials, a possible proposal. We discussed ways in which DCN could do some advocacy for such a network. More discussion to be at Exec Comm. Fridays.
