All around this country and the world, community networking initiatives are growing, as local meets global in our increasingly tele-networked society. Although there are increasing numbers of commercial Internet service providers (ISP's) and online content providers, they rarely offer the necessary hand-holding and support that new users and continuing learners require. Community Networks are taking responsibility for helping local schools, government, businesses, organizations and individual citizens keep up with and intelligently participate in this ever more complex technology and information mediated world. Community Networks are building bridges between existing social organizations and newly evolving networked resources. They are helping to develop online applications that can add value and quality to our lives, and help our localities thrive in this new era.
