  1. DCN's Nonprofit Communication Tools Are Free
  2. Thank You Donors!
  3. Parcel Taxes Explained
  4. Steps You Can Take To Prevent Being Hacked
  5. E-Books In Davis
  6. Why Does The Internet Need Protecting?

1. DCN's Nonprofit Communication Tools Are Free
There is a rumor circulating that DCN is planning to charge for nonprofit mailing lists and websites. This is not true; DCN's services and communication tools for nonprofit organizations (SimpleSites, email lists, web calendar) continue to be offered without charge, and there are no plans to change this policy.

2. Thank You Donors!
We sincerely appreciate recent donations to DCN. We also gratefully acknowledge Paul Siegel's generous donation of Adobe Premiere Professional software packages. Click here if you wish to make a donation.

3. Parcel Taxes Explained
DCN volunteers assisted community members with the development of a web video on the topic of parcel taxes. Watch it here!

4. Steps You Can Take To Prevent Being Hacked
How can you protect yourself against being "hacked"? This article describes how the writer and his wife responded when his wife's Gmail account was compromised, what Google did about it, and three steps you can take to protect yourself online. See article.

5. E-Books In Davis
Do you borrow E-books from the public library? It's easy to do, read more here. And here is a related article on "Which E-Books Are Most Borrowed From Libraries, And Why?"

6. Why Does The Internet Need Protecting?
What is SOPA? It stands for Stop Online Piracy Act, and it's a bill that takes a strong stance on policing the Internet for copyrighted material. There are many entities organizing boycotts against companies that support it. This video does a good job of explaining SOPA in laymen's terms. If you would rather read about it, the New York Times explains it here.

Davis Community Network is a nonprofit organization that provides Internet-related services and support to local nonprofit organizations, public agencies, schools and individuals. We're putting the power of the Internet in the hands of people and organizations to connect, engage, and build a stronger community - since 1993.
