1. Celebrate Davis with DCN
DCN will be at Celebrate Davis this coming Thursday, May 13th at
Community Park. Our theme this year is Social Media. In the spirit of
social media, we will be encouraging people to "like" or "join us" on Facebook, and
on May 15th, we will randomly select one of our "fans" to win our
grand prize: a laptop bag stuffed full of special
computer-related items. Come visit us and get more information!
2. New: Social Media Classes
Are you curious about Social Media, worried about privacy on the
Internet, or are you a nonprofit that would like to learn more about
how today's nonprofits can use social media to increase awareness of
their cause? DCN is offering two new classes this month! Social Media
101 will be held on May 20th, and Nonprofits and
Social Media will be held on May 27th. Class
descriptions and enrollment information can be found on our website: http://www2.dcn.org/dcn/classes/classSchedules/.
3. World Plone Day
Last week we acknowledged World Plone Day,
because DCN's SimpleSites are based on Plone. Plone's the best of the
content management systems, and it allows real people to publish web
content easily and elegantly. To see examples of local websites that
use Plone, click here: http://www2.dcn.org/dcn/about/projects/plone/.
4. New Tools for SimpleSites
You asked, and we listened. Those of you who have SimpleSites may be
interested in some convenient new tools that DCN has made available to
you. Translation, powered by Google Translate, gives visitors
the option to translate your site into more than 50 different
languages. You can see an example of it here: www.savingca.org. Another tool is
the social media box, which allows you to direct visitors to
join you on social networking sites such as Facebook. You can see an
example of it on our website: http://www2.dcn.org/dcn/
5. The Latest on Net Neutrality and the FCC
See today's
Washington Post article. We will continue to post updates via DCN's Facebook Page and newsletters.

Davis Community Network is a nonprofit
organization that provides Internet-related services and support to
local nonprofit organizations, public agencies, schools and
individuals. We're putting the power of the Internet in the hands of
people and organizations to connect, engage, and build a stronger
community - since 1993.
